When spirit degenerates into intellect, intellect claims the whole heritage — moods, depths, guiding heights — as if it alone suffices. It dares to possess what it cannot contain, nets the luminous, reduces paradox to data. Barbarism follows: one-sided momentum without polarity.
Jung named it plainly: the opposites balance in high culture; one-sidedness is barbarism. The reaction against tyrannical intellect (toward feeling, intuition, the yin that reaches into physiological labyrinths) is not regression. It’s widening — consciousness refusing the narrow net.
Living spirits don’t die in the attempt; they simply stop reflecting light for those who mistake capture for understanding.
